It depends on where your spouse is living. If your spouse is in Canada, they may be eligible to apply for an open work permit while their sponsorship application is being processed. If your spouse is outside Canada, they generally cannot work in Canada until they receive permanent residence or obtain a valid work permit through another immigration program.
